    • Strictly speaking, the sF spin liquid is not characterized by the presence of gapless fermionic spinons and gapless gauge bosons, since they are not well defined. Instead the sF spin liquid is characterized by the algebraic correlations between various spin operators. The sF spin liquid is also called algebraic spin liquid to stress this point (see Ref. 5).

    • This has been discussed in Ref. 15 for a class of models with bosonic matter. It is trivial to extend our argument to these cases, where it provides further support for the existence of generic deconfined quantum critical points. Reference 15 also anticipated that the screening argument is not to be trusted in fermionic models such as that considered here, and speculated that as a result some U(1) spin liquids might exist as stable phases in two dimensions.
