Bigi R, Cortigiani L, Mariani P, et al.: Sustained favorable long term prognosis of negative stress echocardiography following uncomplicated myocardial infarction. Am J Cardiol 2002, 90:149-152. This study demonstrates that patients younger than 65 years of age with negative DSE represent an ideal setting in which conservative management could be safely considered because there is a very low incidence of major cardiac events in such patients after an uncomplicated, acute myocardial infarction.

Myocardial viability testing and impact of revascularization on prognosis in patients with coronary artery disease and left ventricular dysfunction: A meta-analysis
-
Allman KC, Shaw U, Hachamovitch R, et al.: Myocardial viability testing and impact of revascularization on prognosis in patients with coronary artery disease and left ventricular dysfunction: a meta-analysis. J Am Coll Cardiol 2002, 39:1151-1158. This meta-analysis demonstrates a strong association between myocardial viability on noninvasive testing and improved survival after revascularization in patients with chronic CAD and left ventricular dysfunction.

Myocardial viability and prognosis in patients with ischemic left ventricular dysfunction
-
Bonow RO: Myocardial viability and prognosis in patients with ischemic left ventricular dysfunction [editorial comment]. J Am Coll Cardiol 2002, 39:1159-1162. This thought-provoking editorial comment discusses the current limitations of available data in viability assessment in the setting of left ventricular dysfunction and discusses the need for prospective, randomized trials.
