    • Due to the insolubility of charged surfactants in nonpolar media, bulk solution limits were acquired using neutral analogs. The neutral analog of the anionic surfactant terminated in an alcohol rather than a sulfate, while the cationic analog terminated in a dimethyl amine. In principle, the actual excitation wavelength of the charged species in nonpolar solvents may be slightly different than the reported values if the charged headgroup alters the electronic structure of the solvatochromic chromophore.
