    • The use of an iodine intercalate proved to be unsuccessful in achieving the intercalation of lithium iodide. We have found a paper on the synthesis of an intercalation complex through the reaction between LiI and the iodine intercalate (J. Solid State Chem. 1998, 141, 452). However, the reported very high electrical resistivity and green color of the final product suggest strongly the decomposition of the superconducting host lattice, instead of intercalation. This conjecture is further supported by no observation of 200 and 220 Bragg peaks that reflect the maintenance of the host block in all the reported intercalation complexes of Bi-based cuprates.

    • The overlap between the Li 1s and I 4d XPS peaks makes impossible the determination of the Li oxidation state by XPS. However, the existence of Li ionic conductivity of this compound verifies the monovalent cationic state of lithium ion.
