The excess of the perfluoroalkyl-alkyl iodide is dissolved in dichloromethane after filtration from the phosphonium salt. After removal of the dichloromethane by rotary evaporation, the residue can be distilled to recover the pure alkylating agent, perfluoroalkyl-alkyl iodide.
