We have recently attached the boronic acid 5 to a fluorescein isothiocyanate derivative to serve as a fluorescent reporter. Preliminary studies indicate that this conjugate selectively labels polymer beads which contain a 1,2-diol. Further studies of this conjugate, along with cell labeling experiments, will be reported in due course.
