    • 17 In Figs. 7a, b and c the maximum intensity at 2θ = 17° did not change unlike the FWHV and in the smectic X phase at 147°C it was about 1/40-1/50 times weaker than a small angle peak maximum. The wide angle X-ray diffraction measurements were not carried out in the same experimental conditions. The exposure times in Fig. 7a were 1.5 times longer than those in Figs. 7b and 7c. Hence the intensities of the inset in Fig. 7 are not described. Further work is in progress to describe a quantitative comparison based on intensities.
