    • We have to emphasize that the high-frequency approximation can be evoked even in cases where the laser frequency is of the same order or lower than some molecular frequencies (if the system under consideration is a molecule) provided that it remains high with respect to others. In such cases only the latter are collected as describing slow motion. As an example, infrared frequencies of the same order of magnitude as vibrational frequencies may be much higher than rotational ones. The high-frequency approximation then only applies to the slow rotational motion, the vibration being treated on the same time scale as the field oscillation.
