22. From Table 5-5-1 of McDaniel and Mason (see Ref. [22]) it can be seen that there is not a unique cross section for "polarization" scattering. The spiraling cross section we use corresponds to the last entry in this table and differs by a factor of 6.95/2π from that calculated from a potential given by the polarization interaction at large radii and a "thin rigid core" at small radii. This terminology is that of the second entry in the table.
