One may note that although the system is out of equilibrium, the noise spectral function can be cast in terms of the equilibrium noise function. This situation it generally true for the noninteracting electrons and for some special cases of the interacting problems [E.V. Sukhorukov, G. Burkard, and D. Loss, Phys. Rev. B 63, 125315 (2001)]. In the noninteracting case the electrons distribution function is a weighted combination of the Fermi-Dirac distribution functions. This is in contradistinction to the inelastic limit, where electron-electron collisions modify the distribution function substantially; cf. Eq. (3).

We note that physical observables even for the second current correlator may be associated with different current correlation functions, such as symmetrized, antisymmetrized, or their combination. At the low-frequency limit which we will concentrate on only the symmetrized part survives. For a discussion of finite-frequency noise measurements see G.B. Lesovik and R. Loosen, Pis'ma Zh. Éksp. Teor. Fiz. 65, 280 (1997) [JETP Lett. 65, 295 (1997)]; U. Gavish, Y. Levinson, and Y. Imry, Phys. Rev. B 62, R10 637 (2000).
