8. c stands for the crossover temperature in 2 flavor QCD with finite mass quarks, and the critical temperature in quenched QCD.
9. Z is, of course, real and positive even for μ>0. In the quenched theory valence quarks exist and μ acts on them.
10. The determinant for each flavor is obtained as usual by taking the fourth root of each staggered quark determinant. As a result, there is a factor of 1/4 for each quark loop evaluated with staggered quarks.
