Nucleocytoplasmic partitioning of the plant photoreceptors phytochrome A, B, C, D, and E is regulated differentially by light and exhibits a diurnal rhythm
-
Kircher S, Gil P, Kozma-Bognár L, Fejes E, Speth V, Husselstein-Muller T, Bauer D, Ádám É, Schäfer E, Nagy F: Nucleocytoplasmic partitioning of the plant photoreceptors phytochrome A, B, C, D, and E is regulated differentially by light and exhibits a diurnal rhythm. Plant Cell 2002, 14:1541-1555. The paper demonstrates that light modulates nucleo/cytoplasmic compartmentalisation of PHYA-PHYE in a light-quality-dependent fashion and that the formation of PHYA-PHYE-containing sub-nuclear speckles exhibits a diurnal rhythm.

Two interacting bZIP proteins are direct targets of COP1-mediated control of light-dependent gene expression in Arabidopsis
-
Holm M, Ma LG, Qu LJ, Deng XW: Two interacting bZIP proteins are direct targets of COP1-mediated control of light-dependent gene expression in Arabidopsis. Genes Dev 2002, 16:1247-1259. The authors identified a novel bZIP protein, designated HYH, as a new target of COP1. Moreover, they provide evidence that interaction of COP1 and HYH results in dark-specific degradation of HYH, and that HYH is predominantly involved in blue-light regulation of development.

Regulation of Arabidopsis cryptochrome 2 by blue-light-dependent phosphorylation
-
Shalitin D, Yang H, Mockler TC, Maymon M, Guo H, Whitelam GC, Lin C: Regulation of Arabidopsis cryptochrome 2 by blue-light-dependent phosphorylation. Nature 2002, 417:763-767. The authors demonstrate that blue light induces phosphorylation of CRY2 in a PHYA-independent fashion and triggers its degradation. These results indicate that light-dependent kinases are involved in the blue-light dependent activation of CRY2.

-
Moller GS, Kim YS, Kunkel T, Chua NH: PP7 is a positive regulator of blue light signaling in Arabidopsis. Plant Cell 2003, 15:111-1119. The authors identified AtPP7, a Ser/Thr protein phosphatase as a positive regulator of cryptochrome signaling in plants. They demonstrate that AtPP7 acts as a nuclear-localised signaling component downstream from but in concert with cryptochrome in response to blue light irradiation.
