    • It is known that the coherent component of the neutron scattering data must oscillate about the origin. The acceptable correction for the Placzek correction is, therefore, intrinsically limited to a few low-period oscillations. Due to the fact that Fourier transformation is an additive procedure, we may FT curves of similar form to our empirical correction to the data to estimate any error upon the real-space data. It is found that the empirical Placzek correction used here varies with the difference function being examined, and is generally observed to have no effect above ∼ 1.5 Å.
