To study the effect of DOP on the spectral shift, distribution of DOP into the porous silica beads was examined. The meniscus of a porous silica beads (220 mg)/DOP (2.0 mL) solution in a small vial was higher than that of a nonporous Pyrex glass plate (220 mg)/DOP (2.0 mL) solution. However, when water was added into each sample, the meniscus of each became quite similar to that of the other. Since the density of porous silica beads is smaller than that of nonporous Pyrex glass, the results indicate that DOP hardly distributes into the porous silica beads on our experimental time scale. Therefore, we suppose the spectral shift of MG in the porous silica bead is ascribed to the intrinsic nature of the silica gel itself.
