14. 16 oxidation of the alcohol to aldehyde, and addition of phenethylmagnesium chloride. Subsequent cleavage and analysis indicated that the desired amino alcohols were routinely obtained in >70% overall yields and at >90% purity as a mixture of two diastereomers (close to 1:1).
