A molecule V with the prinzipal topology of a pretzel has been described by Schill (Schill, G. Catenanes, Rotaxanes, and Knots, Academic Press, New York 1971, p. 114f.) as an intermediate for a catenane synthesis. Yet the bridge between the two catenane-rings there consists of only one (bridging) covalent bond, and therefore the molecule cannot take up a pretzel-like shape. (Matrix Presented) Consequently there are no remarks at all regarding a pretzel molecule in this book and in chemical literature to our knowledge.
