9. We have used the conservative values of 1.75 and 1.85 Å respectively for the van der Waals radii of chlorine and bromine. These values are cited in many textbooks. However, at least one author presents larger values (J. Emsley, The Elements, Clarendon Press, Oxford (1989): Cl 1.81, Br 1.95 Å).
