Despite the beginning of the closing of library schools in the late 1970s, more ALA-accredited library schools existed in 1980 than in 1973. For example, while the University of Oregon was not included in the 1980 survey, library schools included in the 1980 survey but not included in the 1973 survey were Alabama, Arizona, Ball, Brigham Young, Clarion, Maryland, McGill, Montana, North Carolina Central, North Texas State, Pratt, St. Johns, South Carolina, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Texas, Western Ontario, and Wisconsin (Milwaukee). Some had been accredited institutions that apparently had not responded to the 1973. Many, however, received ALA-accreditation during the 1970s

Better Pay, More Jobs: Placement & Salaries 99
-
October 15
-
Actually over the past almost two decades beginning salaries of librarians have increased modestly in comparison with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index (CPI). If starting salaries had increased at the same rate as the CPI since 1982-84 they would have been in $29,848 in 1999. However, the average beginning salary reported that year was $33,976. Vicki L.
