22. The net charge was evaluated from a Mulliken analysis of the extended Hückel (EH) calculations. We are not pretending to determine a quantitative charge distribution within EH theory, even if the present description of a charge transfer is qualitatively correct.

25. The extra resistance of gold-nanotube contacts depends on the structural compatibility between the Au(111) crystal and the carbon atoms in the circular section which is the diameter. An extra-resistance of 5 kΩ was found for a (6,6) tube in Ref. 14.
