    • When we speak of 2, we refer to the Grignard solution obtained by iodine/magnesium exchange of the diiodoalkane 1. For most cases in the present study we have not ascertained whether the major species in solution is 2 or-more likely-the bis(α-iodoalkyl)magnesium species 6 resulting from a Schlenk equilibrium.
