    • We tried to prepare ligand 2 with a dedicated organic synthesis, by reacting quinolinealdehyde with an excess of R,R-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane. However, due to the comparable solubility in organic solvents of trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane and 2, we were not able to separate them. Metal-mediated hydrolysis should thus be considered the synthesis of choice for 2.
