    • A reviewer suggested the possibility that this transition may contain intraligand (IL) and/or ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT) character. We discount a significant IL contribution on the basis of the absence of band 1 in the electronic absorption spectrum of the cyclopentadienide anion (measured in AN). Likewise, we consider an LLCT contribution as unlikely, since the Raman spectra of BFc (Figure 4) show no resonance intensity enhancement of the C-C symmetric breathing mode of the unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl ring.
