    • CH region of our IR spectrum is virtually identical to that of similar samples made from salts that did not contain acac or related species. We conclude that the acac ligands were replaced by support oxygen ligands, and some acac ligands or fragments formed from them remained on the MgO surface.

    • Reported as turnover frequency (TOF, rate of reaction per exposed gold atom), which for our catalysts is essentially the rate per total gold atom. There was no detectable catalytic activity in the absence of catalyst, and the MgO support alone was inactive.
