Compound 2 was first used to prepare supported gold by M. Okumura, K. Tanaka, A. Ueda, M. Haruta, Solid State Ionics 1997, 95, 143-149. Pyrolysis of 2 was observed to occur, and the gold aggregated to form nanoparticles.

CH region of our IR spectrum is virtually identical to that of similar samples made from salts that did not contain acac or related species. We conclude that the acac ligands were replaced by support oxygen ligands, and some acac ligands or fragments formed from them remained on the MgO surface.

Reported as turnover frequency (TOF, rate of reaction per exposed gold atom), which for our catalysts is essentially the rate per total gold atom. There was no detectable catalytic activity in the absence of catalyst, and the MgO support alone was inactive.

We do not rule out the possibility that ethene-derived adsorbates were formed on the gold center, but because of the noise in the signal it was not possible to isolate any such contribution in the EXAFS data.
