During the preparation of this letter, we learned about the contributions by Gellman et al. (Umezawa, N.; Gelman, M. A.; Haigis, M. C.; Raines, R. T.; Gellman, S. H. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2002, 124, 368) and Seebach et al. (Rueping, M.; Mahajan, Y.; Sauer, M.; Seebach D. ChemBioChem 2002, 2-3, 257) on the cellular uptake of β-peptides. The cellular translocation of β-peptides was also reported by Prof. D. Interestingly, these features were not observed previously for an heptamer of L-lysine, see ref 4. The change in the backbone seems to have in this case a positive effect on the translocation activity of the oligomer.
