In the HKR of propene oxide, after stirring for 30 min, most of the catalyst is dissolved in the substrate, however, the mixture became cloudy and a red precipitate appeared after 0.55 equiv. of water was added. When epichlorohydrin is employed, the reaction mixture was a black solution 4 h after water was added.
