It is noted that the Baylis-Hillman adducts involving heterocycles are unstable at room temperature. The Baylis-Hillman adduct of 2-furaldehyde turns into complicated mixtures over 1 week at room temperature. Similar phenomena were also observed for pyridinecarboxaldehydes. The Baylis-Hillman adduct of 4-pyridinecarboxaldehyde was partly oxidised to the carboxylic acid over 1 h at room temperature
