Real-time prediction of hand trajectory by ensembles of cortical neurons in primates
-
This study describes the first demonstration that multielectrode recordings can be used to generate large-scale neural activity as inputs of real-time models designed to control a robotic arm. The authors demonstrate that this approach could be used to create a 'brain-machine interface' that allowed a robot arm to mimic the intended hand movements of primates trained in two different behavioral tasks.

Rat navigation guided by remote control
-
Here a complete new application of multielectrode recording and multielectrode microstimulation techniques enable Talwar et al. to employ 'virtual tactile cues' and 'virtual rewards' to remotely instruct rats to navigate through extremely challenging environments. This study goes one step further in the implementation of hybrid brain-machine interfaces.
