note
-
Alhough the beam profile of the Xe lamp under the microscope is near Gaussian, the results indicate that the excitation light is homogeneously irradiated to the entire droplet at d < 11 μm. This was acheived by introducing the Xe beam to the microscope through a minute aperture (∼1 mm).

note

As long as analysis of the oil phase was made by GC-MS, we could not confirm any major by-product(s). On the other hand, although we have not isolated it, a water-soluble by-product(s) is produced, as confirmed by NMR.

The fluorescence lifetime in aerated BN was different between 1-PeCN (6.3 ns) and 3-PeCN (4.5 ns).

-1, respectively. The fluorescence quenching efficiency of PeCN by PeH (2.5 mM) was ∼8%. Furthermore, energy transfer quenching of the singlet excited state of PeH by PeCN is expected to proceed because the fluorescence spectrum of PeH overlaps significantly with the absorption spectrum of PeCN.

note
-
The fluorescence lifetimes of PeH in the absence and presence of PeCN (0.37 mM) were 4.0 and 3.8 ns, respectively. On the other hand, the average lifetimes of PeCN in the absence and presence of PeH (2.5 mM) were 5.8 and 6.2 ns, respectively. Therefore, the contribution of fluorescence quenching is as low as ∼7%.
