Simon points out that the resistance anisotropy observed in square van der Pauw-like samples can greatly exceed the microscopic resistivity anisotropy owing to current spreading effects. Lilly et al. [8] showed that substantial anisotropy is still observed in Hall bar samples and that they exhibit the same temperature and filling factor dependences as the square samples. At ν=9/2 anisotropy ratios as high as 10 have been observed in Hall bars; see Ref. [33].
