The efficacy of intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin in the treatment of interstitial cystitis: long-term followup
-
PID: 9554338, COI: 1:STN:280:DyaK1c3htlSjsg%3D%3D, The authors previously reported a prospective, double-blind, placebo controlled study of the use of 6 weekly intravesical instillation of bacilles Calmette-Guérin (BCG) the treatment of IC. The mean follow-up was 8 months. The encouraging results demonstrated a 60% BCG response rate, compared with 27% placebo response rate. this recent paper, they reported long-term mean follow-up (27 months), eight of nine (89%) of the responders continued to benefit from the therapy. This represents encouraging results a small group of patients. However, the study design was very satisfactory

A prospective study of interstitial cystitis: results of longitudinal follow-up of the interstitial cystitis database cohort. The Interstitial Cystitis DataBase Study Group
-
PID: 10751852, COI: 1:STN:280:DC%2BD3c3hslSjsA%3D%3D, A total of 637 eligible patients were entered into the study and were followed for symptoms of pain, urgency, and urinary frequency. Median follow-up was 31 months. Median duration of IC symptoms was 8 years. Although all symptoms fluctuated, there was no evidence of significant long-term change overall disease severity. The observations support the clinical observation that IC is a chronic disease and that no current treatments have a significant impact on symptoms with time
