The length of the molecules is estimated to be 24 Å, assuming bond angles of 110° for both the the Au-S-C and C-C-C and bond lengths 2.21 Å (Au-S from Ref. 28), 1.81 Å (S-C), 1.541 Å (C-C), and a contribution of 1.5 Å from the methyl group.

Preliminary results of surface grazing x-ray diffraction on C16 islands performed by the present authors agree with the value given here for the tilt angle and demonstrate that aged islands grown by the present procedure are single domain. (Work in progress.)
