The absence of WT1 mutations in the other six patients suggests genetic heterogeneity of the disease.

    • 21 Winn MP, Conlon PJ, Lynn KL, Howell DN, Slotterbeck BD, Smith AH, et al.: Linkage of a gene causing familial focal segmental glomerulosclerosis to chromosome 11 and further evidence of genetic heterogeneity. Genomics 1999, 58:113-120. Familial forms of FSGS have been identified, and linkage to chromosome 11q21-q22 was found in a large family whereas the disease was not linked to chromosome 11 in a second family neither to a previously described locus on chromosome 19. These results demonstrate genetic heterogeneity in familial FSGS.
