13C-enriched carbons appeared as signal groups, each consisting of (1) a doublet (due to coupling within an acetate unit) and (2) a smaller doublet of doublet (occurring due to the less abundant coupling with a labeled neighbor acetate unit together with the coupling within a labeled acetate unit) for each labeled carbon and of (3) a singlet for the natural abundant, unlabeled carbon. [20] The actual enrichment of 13C achieved in the labeled isotopomers of a sample may be unexpectedly high.
