4. Led by the Lombardy League, regional leagues in the north founded the Northern League, a federation of regional movements throughout northern Italy. The relative electoral successes of the Lombardy League gave impetus to the revival of Leagues in the other areas of the north, where the autonomists' vote exceeded five per cent.

6. In the 1994 elections, the Northern League was part of a centre-right electoral coalition known as the 'pole of liberty'.
