This comprehensive review shows that comorbidity between psychiatric and alcohol use disorders is common among suicide victims, and that alcohol use disorders are most frequently combined with depressive disorders. Interpersonal loss within 6 weeks before suicide is shown to be more prevalent among alcoholic than nonalcoholic suicide victims.

An excellent study concerned with major risk factors for suicidal ideation among the US drinking population is presented. This discussion addresses risk and protective factors associated with psychopathology, gender roles, and treatment of major depression.
