    • note
    • The estimate of 5.2 g/month is calculated from (10 ng/mg hair)/(0.5 ng/mg hair)×260 mg/month. The estimate of 260 mg/month in the literature to reach 0.5 ng of cocaine/mg of hair did not quote purity, route of administration (and hence bioavailability), or body weight of the individual. Nevertheless, the lower bioavailability of ingested cocaine compensates for the differences in body weights of adults vs. children. Thus, the oral bioavailablity of cocaine (approximately 10%), the likely route for children, was not taken into consideration.
