15. 26Mg spike solution, and the Mg fraction was separated from other sea salts by means of cation-exchange resis (Biorad AG-50, X8). The Mg fraction was eluted, dried, and redissolved in hydrochloric acid before being loaded onto Re filaments with Ta activator. Mass fractionation was corrected for by an exponential law, and data was collected in single collector mode (VG Sector). Repeat analysis of an internal standard yielded an external measurement precision of 0.044% (1σ, n = 10).
