    • 3 heater assembly and a Pt capsule, using a 2000-ton multianvil apparatus at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Pressure-volume-temperature measurements were carried out in boron-epoxy cells with a DIA-type, cubic-anvil apparatus, designed for in situ x-ray diffraction studies at high pressure and temperature (9). Energy-dispersive spectra were collected for up to 300 s at the diffraction angle 2θ ≈ 7.6°. Sodium chloride was used as the pressure standard with the Decker equation of state, and temperature was measured with a W/Re24%-W/Re6% thermocouple that was in direct contact with the sample and NaCl layers.
