    • The alkylation of diphenol 14 and 17 afforded the desired monoalkyl products 6 and 8 accompanying with dialkylated products. In the reaction, the carborane cage was partially decomposed to nido-form by nucleophilic attack of the amine on the boron atom under high temperature or long reaction time conditions.
