The polarization-dependent experiments were performed by rotating the polarization of the incident laser light in the plane of the sample. As a consequence of the high-velocity spin coating, the LH2 complexes are oriented predominantly flat on the substrate surface, perpendicular to the propagation vector of the excitation light This was confirmed by similar experiments on LH2 complexes in non-spin-coated films.
