Genetics of Cancer web site. Available at: www.cancergenetics.org. This web site was developed by the Northwestern University Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center with support provided by a National Cancer Institute grant for innovative strategies to expand education and training programs in cancer genetics. The site is designed to serve not only health professionals (eg, primary care physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and health care educators) but also patients and the general public. The site provides modules aimed at either health professionals or laypersons that describe the genetics of cancer, molecular genetics, the genetic basis of disease and genetic counseling. Other modules include case scenarios, a moderated discussion group, and a mechanism that allows for the posting of questions that are answered by a clinical geneticist and genetic counselor via e-mail. Since inception of this web site in February 1998, approximately 300,000 people have visited the site and have submitted over 400 questions.
