Transfusion 1997, 37:182-187. Dexamethasone 8 mg given with G-CSF 600 μg/kg increased neutrophil counts 12 hours after administration to a much greater extent than either drug alone. This is a convenient regimen for preparing donors for collection the next day.

Determinants of the efficacy of prophylactic granulocyte transfusions: A meta-analysis
-
38 Vamvakas EC, Pineda AA: Determinants of the efficacy of prophylactic granulocyte transfusions: a meta-analysis. J Clin Apheresis 1997, 12:74-81. The conclusions of this attempt at meta-analysis of older clinical trials are consistent with earlier observations suggesting the importance of granulocyte dose and donor and recipient histocompatibility. Given the extreme heterogeneity of these trials, however, the power of the statistical analyses is probably somewhat weak.
