Two factors may be responsible for such a low rate of equilibration. One possibility is that chloroform, or even the traces of ethanol present, can act in antagonism to the components 1 and 2, thereby resulting in a lower association constant. See, for example, D. Tsiourvas, Z. Sideratou, A. A. Haralabakopoulos, G. Pistolis, C. M. Paleos, J. Phys. Chem. 1996, 100, 14087, and references therein. Another possibility is that other interactions besides hydrogen bonding are involved in the self-assembly process.
