Arthritis Rheum 1998, 41;845-854. C. trachomatis was detected in approximately 30% of patients with undifferentiated oligoarthritis in synovial fluid. An inverse correlation was found between the detection of chlamydiae and specific lymphocyte proliferation, indicating that a weak T-cell response contributes to bacterial persistence.

Arthritis Rheum 1998, 41:694-700. These authors draw attention to the fact that, based on magnetic resonance imaging of knee arthritis, enthesitis is frequently found in peripheral joints and they hypothesize that enthesitis might come first and synovitis might be secondary to the enthesitis.

The authors report that, in patients treated with Bacillus Calmette-Guèrin intravesically for bladder cancer, an oligoarthritis can occur. Most interestingly, 61% of these patients were HLA-B27 positive.
