    • The following discussions in this paper are also based on the assumption that the metal-oxo bond is formed at the top face of the complexes. However, since the complexes arc C2-symmetric, the oxo species having the oxene atom at top face are the same as the oxo species at bottom face.

    • The role of an apical ligand is not simple but multi fold. For the role of the apical ligand, see references, 1a and 2.

    • Enantioselectivity in the oxidation of the sulfides having a higher HOMO such as methyl phenyl sulfide and methyl p-methoxyphenyl sulfide is increased by the addition of an apical ligand. This is probably because the transition state of the reaction of this type exists in the earlier stage and the distance between the 2"-phenyl group and the sulfide is long. Therefore, the movement of the 2"-group little affects enantioselectivity and the improvement of enantioselectivity by the diminishment of the reactivity of the oxo species caused by the coordination of a donor ligand exceeds the effect of the movement of the 2"-group.
