This study assessed 112 drug misusing offenders in south London, referred by probation for treatment. There was a high incidence of relapse. The results indicated that better attendance with the probation service and a drug advice centre reduced reconviction rates.

Schizophr Bull 1998; 24:437-441. The authors used an unselected birth cohort and prospectively followed it up to the age of 26 years. It is one of the most interesting studies in this field.
