Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy with macular edema: Visual improvement and fluorescein angiographic characteristics
-
4 Tomsak RL, Zakov ZN: Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy with macular edema: visual improvement and fluorescein angiographic characteristics. J Neuroophthalmol 1998, 18:166-168. This review found that among patients with NAION, those with co-existing macular edema have better visual prognosis than do those without macular edema.

Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy: Enigma variations
-
9 Lessel S: Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy: enigma variations [editorial]. Arch Ophthalmol 1999, 11 7:386-388. This editorial points out that we really do not know the pathogenesis of NAION. Despite its frequent association with DM, NAION is often seen in patients without obvious vascular risk factors.

31 Pocecco M, Ronfani L: Transient focal neurologic deficits associated with hypoglycaemia in children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Acta Paediatr 1998, 87:542-544. This study reviews 54 episodes of transient neurologic deficits resulting from hypoglycemia in children. Eight episodes were preceded by a seizure, and episodes often did not resolve promptly with administration of sugar. However, because prognosis is good, detailed investigations are not required.
