In order to facilitate surgical access for ENT or ophthalmic surgery without using a reinforced LMA and a mouth gag, the authors adapted a malleable intubation stylet outside the LMA with adhesive tape: this allowed positioning of the breathing system away from the surgical field.

The modification of the endotracheal tube consists of cutting a U-shaped notch opposite to Murphy's eye in order to enlarge the bevel of a standard tracheal tube; this prevents blocking of the right upper lobe bronchus in a case of selective right mainstem bronchus intubation.

Reviewing 200 MRI head scans of children 0-17 years old, the authors measured the midline distance from the gums/teeth to the prevertebral space and from this line to the tip of the epiglottis. The oropharyngeal distance is related to age, weight and sex, and the distance to the epiglottis is highly variable.
