At present, we suppose that the hydrogen at the 2-position of the cyclopentenone comes from the small amount of water present in the reaction medium, because rigorous elimination of water from the reaction mixture by carrying out the reaction in the presence of MS 4A made the reaction sluggish and the yield of the product decreased considerably.
