    • Major histocompatibility complex class II molecules can protect from diabetes by positively selecting T-cells with additional specificities
    • of outstanding interest. In this study, the authors show that resistant MHC alleles induce the development of T cell populations that are restricted to the resistant allele and capable of suppressing the diabetic process. Evidence is presented that this is not simply a gene dose effect but is in fact a direct or indirect effect of the population of T cells that is restricted to the resistant MHC class II allele.

    • A mechanism for the major histocompatibility linked resistance to autoimmunity
    • of outstanding interest. In this study, the authors show that introduction of a resistant MHC class II allele into a mouse transgenic for the TCR and expressing diabetogenic T cells results in negative selection of the diabetogenic TCR, thus offering a second possible mechanism for resistance to the development of type I diabetes (see [29]).
